Today, being a public holiday, I decided to have a picnic with my girlfriend, as the weather was still nice. It's good to be living in South Africa isn't it?
So I pack the bags, off I go. Kamla wants to get some Kentucky, so I stop off there. Unfortunately, half the menu is not available. The reason, the cashier explained, is that there was a problem with the water. This made absolutely no sense to me, but not nearly as much as the fact that instead of putting up a temporary notice, they'd rather have customers be dissapointed *after* standing in a queue! So it's off to Mac Donalds. Logic would dictate that choosing a drive through would be faster than going inside. After sitting in the drive through queue for 7 minutes I begin to have my doubts. Noticing that one car has been standing at the "order" window for the duration of these 7 minutes, I get out of my car to investigate. I ask what the reason for the holdup is. The cashier explains that the lady in the car was paying by credit card, and that there some difficulty in finding a pen. A pen, what an unusual customer request at a place of business!! Before my sarcasm goes orbital,..... I returned to my car, a bit too stunned to take the matter any further. The car queue moves on and I bet to the "orders" counter. Now I'm ready to place my usual order - A Big Mac meal with a coke. The cashier smile pleasantly at me, and informs me that only chicken burgers are available. Once again, something I could have been informed of *before* waiting in a long queue by way of a simple temporary sign / poster. Irate beyond words I, I hear wheels screeching, realizing that they are in fact my own. I demand to see the manager ( I am inside the Mac Donalds, now.....how ironic) and protests to the manager. The manager apolgises and says that a sign will be put up. Right, and pigs will fly. My mood ruined, time wasted I return home, to get my board and try to salvage what's left of my day.... The weather's still nice. Thank god for that, I wonder if my countrymen will find a way to screw that up too. Happy freedom day y'all !!
